Coordinator, Corporate and Community Education

“Going Global from the Heartland” teaches cutting-edge techniques for developing, designing, and managing business Web sites.

The two-day program consists of two basic seminars and two advanced seminars. It is offered at the Highlands, Hardee, and DeSoto campuses through South Florida State College’s Corporate and Community Education Department.

Seminar Topics

Introduction to E-Commerce: This seminar explains the basics of e-commerce, including registering a domain name, selecting a Web site host, and determining which type of Web site best serves a particular business. Participants learn about designing a Web site, which they may do themselves or by using a professional designer, and the costs, responsibilities, and timelines involved with working with designers. The seminar also discusses Web technologies such as HTML, CSS code, Flash, spiders, bots, bandwidth, meta tags, the difference between search engines and Web browsers, and other terminology.

Designing Your First Web Site: Instructors demonstrate basic techniques for building Web sites. During the seminar, participants will design and create a limited-use Web site. Topics will include building a home page, site navigation styles, Flash, Web image basics, page links, the site map, meta tags, and more.

Web Site Marketing: What Works and What Doesn’t: This seminar teaches the low- and no-cost practices for driving people to Web sites. Participants learn the value of online links and advertising such as Google Ads, Google Words, Google Sense, and Yahoo Ads. Instructors explain how search engines determine the ranking and popularity of Web sites and how to interpret statistics such as hits, impressions, click rate, and click-through rate. The seminar also covers bandwidth, crawlers, bots, and spiders.
